4”x6” Relief Print

From the “Postcards from places to cry at” series. This relief depicts the world’s largest basket, the former Longaberger Basket company headquarters in Newark Ohio. There is an interesting absurd grandeur in the many roadside attractions littered across the United States, as each “world’s largest” object took considerable craftsmanship to construct, but their intended purpose of bringing in tourists and inspire awe are often at best dubiously met. They are a living testament of ingenuity and industrial prowess, but in their existence and often visible decay serve as the idyllic symbol of American Exceptionalism. Sure it is the world’s largest basket, but who really views it as anything more than a novelty? A footnote of a road trip in an entire vast life?
